LIRS was moving from providing services to immigrants and refugees to building capacity for collaborative action and changing the nature of the conversation. LIRS discovered through their research that the key ingredient for successful integration into communities in the USA was 'a feeling of belonging'. This was a fist step in exploring how we create the conditions for newcomers to feel belonging as they arrive in their new community.
The goal of the 3 day training was to build a sense of community, develop practice and skills around collaborative leadership and design next steps forward as a a collective. The group continued to meet together once a month over the next six months to collect stories and take action supported by mini grants from LIRS.
