A series of trainings for leaders within the European Commission in the Art of Participatory Leadership as part of larger ongoing initiative in systems change. From the training welcome letter:
“Participatory leadership - organising, facilitating and reporting on meetings in a participative way – has proven its value in many different contexts as a means of using everybody's input and intelligence in groups and organisations. Like in other organisations, we need to be more flexible and creative to successfully navigate the challenges facing us: accelerating rate of change, increased complexity and the prospect of "zero growth" in human resources in the Commission. The traditional ways of leading and organising meetings are no longer workable, and tapping into the potential held in the organisation is crucial. Allowing everyone to participate with their diverse perspectives is the key to releasing this potential.
The different participative formats and methods have already been used to good effect in many Commission services, particularly in the following areas:
- Stakeholder consultations and alignment
- Organisational development
- Leadership development
- Management alignment
- Team development
- Staff engagement
- Collaboration across levels and departments ("working across silos/stovepipes")
- Developing and animating networks and communities of practice”
