Last week was remarkable. We had the launch event for NOW Lunenburg County in Blockhouse and the Art of Hosting: Beyond the Basics came to Mahone Bay. It truly felt like my work was coming home to roost. Two of the most exciting projects I am involved in happening within a 5 minute drive of my house. Awesome!
NOW Lunenburg County Launch event on May 13th
All too often these types of events are one offs which end up being very inspirational but momentum runs out after a few days as there is not follow up infrastructure or commitment from the organisers. Not so in this case. The team pulling the event together had gone through an incredible learning journey in the planning - both in terms of designing a project that is happening as we build it and in terms of our own willingness to do something completely new and unpredictable. I am really proud to be part of the team leading this. Lots of updates coming soon to the site. Stay tuned!
Art of Hosting Beyond the Basics - Depth, Breadth, Power and Friendship
75 people turned up for the three day event. Folks coming from all walks of life - youth, elders, corporate leaders, community organisers, healthcare, non-profit to name a few. We even had one fella come in from South Africa to join the training! It was magic. I had friends, colleagues, clients, mentors, apprentices all in the room together. We moved from provocative teachings and powerful conversations to concrete planning and a night of dancing! All of this supported by the village of Mahone Bay. We filled up the B&Bs, took over one wing of the Mahone Bay Centre and Mateus Bistro and Rebecca's combined to bring incredible food for us to feast on. Truly the village became the venue (and the Mahone Bay Trading co. shoe shop did a roaring trade as well!). I felt proud to host people in my community. I hope it is the beginning of many more events coming to the South Shore.
Big week - done now and moving on …
I think that has to be the biggest week of 2014! Putting myself, my work and the place I live right on the line. I am still recovering from the week, absorbing all the learning and riding out the afterglow. Here's a few pics to close us out:
